Oh wow!  This is one of those crazy Hollywood stories of a role an actor turned down that would have been LOADS OF MONEY IN THE BANK.

Matt Damon told this epic story of how he turned down the role of Jake Sully in James Cameron’s “Avatar” (which Sam Worthington ended up playing)…and GQ did the math.  He would have been a quarter of a billion dollars richer, since “Avatar” went on make $2.79 billion at the box office.

Damon told British GQ, “Jim Cameron offered me ‘Avatar’.  And when he offered it to me, he goes: ‘Now, listen. I don’t need anybody. I don’t need a name for this, a named actor. If you don’t take this, I’m gonna find an unknown actor and give it to him, because the movie doesn’t really need you. Butif you take the part, I’ll give you 10 percent” of the film’s profits.

“I told John Krasinski this story when we were writing ‘Promised Land.’… He goes: ‘If you had done that movie, nothing in your life would be different. Nothing in your life would be different at all. Except that, right now, we would be having this conversation in space.'”

Damon explained. “So, yeah. I’ve left more money on the table than any actor actually.”

WHY WHY WHY?  It conflicted with shooting his “Bourne” series. I GUESS that’s acceptable but sheesh!
