The 2020 Emmy Awards paid tribute to the many performers and television creators who died this year, including Naya Rivera, Chadwick Boseman, Regis Philbin, Jerry Stiller, James Lipton, Fred Willard, Diana Rigg, Carl Reiner and more. A video montage played as two-time GRAMMY winner H.E.R. performed a rendition of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U.’

As for the winners, Watchmen took home more Emmys than any other show of 2020, with HBO scoring the most wins of any network or streaming service. Watchmen picked up 11 Emmys in total, including wins for best limited series and best actress in a limited series for Regina King. Zendaya also became the youngest-ever best actress in a drama series (at 24) for Euphoria.

HBO’s Succession also won in many of the drama series categories, including the best drama series award and best actor in a drama for Jeremy Strong.

The final season of Schitt’s Creek won all 7 possible Emmys it was up for total, including a historic sweep of all the major comedy categories.

Last Week Tonight picked up its fifth win in a row for best variety talk series. RuPaul’s Drag Race picked up the award for best competition series. Once again, virtually no broadcast shows won more than one Emmy this year. The only exception is Saturday Night Live, which won six.

And Jennifer Aniston put out a fire.

And there was a mini “Friends” reunion!
