Radiothon Kid Signs On To Bellarmine’s Basketball Team…At Age 7

Bellarmine University Head Basketball Coach Scott Davenport added to his roster on Thursday afternoon by signing 7-year-old Radiothon kid Seth Walsh through Team IMPACT, a national non-profit organization that has developed a unique multiyear program that matches children facing serious illnesses and disabilities with college athletic teams across the country.

Seth, who is a five-time leukemia survivor from Mt. Washington, Kentucky, was officially introduced at a “signing” press conference on Thursday at Bellarmine’s Knights Hall at the conclusion of the youth basketball camp being offered through the Bellarmine’s men’s basketball team.  Seth and his older brothers Brayden (11) and Max (9) are participating in the camp.

By signing with the team, Seth will participate in many activities with the men’s basketball team including games, practices and other events.

Seth’s battle with leukemia began with his diagnosis the day after Christmas in 2018. He’s had a lot of hard-hitting treatments and two bone marrow transfusions (one from his brother Max…he was preparing for that at Norton Children’s when we first met him…and another one from an anonymous donor named Rey). He started a new treatment that is still in trials and his last scan showed he’s 100% in remission, but still in palliative care.

This isn’t the first time the Knights have done this…23-year-old Patrick McSweeney got this chance in 2013 and, he even played in a game, starting and scoring two points in an exhibition against UofL in the KFC Yum! Center.
