Ben Davis can tell you (because he’s done this), rappelling off the roof of a tall building is worth it for a great cause!  Gilda’s Club Kentuckiana (GCK) is giving people of all ages and abilities to go “Over the Edge” to raise funds for cancer support in Kentuckiana!

Individuals who raise a minimum of $1,000 will secure a place on the ropes to rappel down the 18-floor, 236.5 ft.-tall Hyatt Regency building in downtown Louisville from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Friday, May 20. Timeslots will fill up, so get signed up!  In addition to an enthusiastic cheer section near the landing area that will root for you the whole way, participants may also choose to record their adventure with a helmet-mounted Go Pro camera (provided) to share their extraordinary experience with friends and family near and far.

“Proceeds from Over The Edge will help ensure the community, social connections, coping skills, and access to individual and family therapy offered at Gilda’s Club are sustained for our 1,800 members and their friends and families,” said Karen Morrison, President/CEO of GCK.

Quick facts about the “Over the Edge” event:

  • Any age can participate in an Over The Edge event—people in their 80s and 90s rappel. A parent or guardian must sign the legal waiver for anyone under the age of 18.
  • Over The Edge’s equipment safety standards require that people must be between 100-300 lbs. in order to safely rappel.
  • No experience is necessary! Participants get all the training they need on the actual event day.
  • This event will be safely conducted with COVID-19 public health guidelines in place. In addition, Gilda’s Club will pre-screen all participants and volunteers entering the registration area. Volunteers will be rescreened the day of the event. GCK will enforce temperature checks, as well as social distancing, added sanitization, and face covering requirements.
  • Gilda’s Club staff will provide a fundraising link for registrants, as well as support for you on your fundraising journey. Learn about who to ask, how to ask, and how best to utilize social media. Get more info and register here: www.gck.org/events/ote2022/
