Lizzo is being hit with another plagiarism claim over her single, “Truth Hurts.”
Songwriter and producer, Justin Raisen, part of a songwriting duo who says they wrote the line for another Lizzo song they did with her. He posted a video to his Instagram in which he compared “Truth Hurts” to a single called “Healthy” that he allegedly wrote with Lizzo and others in 2017.
The claim is centered on the epic opening line, ”I just took a DNA test, turns out I’m 100 percent that b-tch,” as well as the fact the two tracks share the same melody. Raisen said, “After reaching out to Ricky Reed and Lizzo’s team about fixing it, we put the song in dispute in 2017 when it came out. We’ve tried to sort this out quietly for the last two years, only asking for 5% each but were shutdown every time.”
This is the second time Lizzo has been accused of stealing portions of “Truth Hurts.” In February 2018, British singer, Mina Lioness, says she first tweeted the line “I just took a DNA test, turns out I’m 100 percent that b-tch.” Turns out, Raisen admits he saw that tweet and it was the inspiration for the lyric. He says he would share some of the proceeds with Mina if Lizzo’s team settles.
