Chris Brown struck a plea deal with Los Angeles prosecutors to avoid jail time after being charged with illegally having a pet monkey in his home.  All the trouble started when he posted a picture of his daughter Royalty with the monkey that he bought her a year ago.

He has to complete a six-month formal diversion program. Along with the program, he has to pay $35,000 towards the care of his former monkey, named Fiji. The capuchin monkey has since been placed in a specialized retreat for primates by the California State Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Terms of the deal include the charges being dismissed if Brown does not violate the terms, and does not possess any other non-permitted animals.
