The 2024 Video Music Awards show marks Chappell Roan’s first big awards show performance where she also received four nominations. She started off with a bang as she was seen yelling at a photographer from the red carpet.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight’s Rachel Smith, she sheds some light on her experience with that after just having publicly set clear boundaries over her attention.

In the interview above, she explains,

The carpet is horrifying. And I yelled back.

Chappell expands on that by saying her experiences with fans have been better since making it known what kind of behavior is acceptable.

I think that it’s hard for artists to speak up because they’re so scared of their fans hating them.

She showed out in a medieval look complete with a sword, metallic knight-like boots, and nails like daggers.

She went on to perform “Good Luck, Babe!” in full armor after setting the background on fire with an arrow.

And to top things off, Chappell took home Best New Artist!
