It happened. Britney Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, has decided to step down as conservator after months of public pressure.

Britney Spears’ father, Jamie, has agreed to step down from his daughter’s conservatorship “when the time is right.” On Thursday, he filed his response to her petition asking for his removal, saying that he is willing to step down, even though he insists that there are “no actual grounds for suspending or removing” him.

His attorney cites the “public battle with his daughter” as his reasoning for stepping down. “Mr. Spears is willing to step down when the time is right, but the transition needs to be orderly and include a resolution of matters pending before the Court,” says the filing.

Britney’s new attorney, Mathew Rosengart, quickly issued a response. “We are pleased that Mr. Spears and his lawyer have today conceded in a filing that he must be removed. It is vindication for Britney. We are disappointed, however, by their ongoing shameful and reprehensible attacks on Ms. Spears and others…”
