Stars Sign Global Citizen Letter Calling For Action Against Poverty

During the opening ceremony of Global Citizen NOW, the organization`s first leadership summit held in New York City on Sunday, May 22, stars pushed to end poverty and climate change. Billie Eilish, Coldplay, Shawn Mendes, and a host of other artists and celebrities urged world leaders, billionaires, and private sector leaders to end poverty and climate change.

According to the World Bank, approximately 100 million more people have fallen into extreme poverty in recent years. COVID accelerated the call to action to make meaningful changes on issues. These included, “breaking systemic barriers that keep people in poverty,” taking climate action now, and “empowering young women and girls across the world.” There were 200 speakers from the worlds of advocacy, activism, philanthropy, journalism, politics, science, and pop culture who spoke over the course of the two-day event.
