COVID-19 vaccine developer Sarah Gilbert was honored with a Barbie doll made in her likeness. In fact, Professor Gilbert, who helped co-develop the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, is one of six women who have new Barbies modeled after them.

Here are the five other women honored by Barbie.

  1. Emergency room nurse Amy O’Sullivan who treated the first COVID-19 patient.
  2. Audrey Cruz, a frontline doctor in Las Vegas who fought discrimination.
  3. Chika Stacy Oriuwa, a Canadian psychiatry resident who battled systemic racism in healthcare.
  4. Brazilian biomedical researcher Jaqueline Goes de Jesus, who led sequencing of the genome of a COVID-19 variant in Brazil.
  5. Kirby White, an Australian doctor who pioneered a surgical gown that can be washed and reused by frontline workers.
